To put it concisely (and one day I'll expand on this further)—

Clive is a man bound to his past, trying to make a better future for himself and others like him, inspired by the sacrifices that others have made. He lives in a dying world, struggling to survive, willing to put aside titles and honorifics to lead a life that perhaps he'd never imagined for himself in his youth. He's dedicated adamantly to those he loves and cares for, stopping at nothing for what he deems as right and just. Sometimes potentially foolish and self-sacrificing, he dons the heavy mantle of responsibility and, at times, a leadership he never asked for.
